Planning and Organising Jobs

Jobs is where your plan really starts

Jobs are the core of Plan Heaven. It’s where your plan really starts. Each job you create flows into the job’s table and the sum of the cost of all jobs flows on down into the funding table.

So without jobs you don’t have a plan.

Adding and editing jobs

We hope that now you appreciate that you start with setting up jobs first. We also hope that once you take a look at the jobs section you will find that the process of adding, editing and deleting jobs is intuitive.

However there are a couple of quirky things you need to be aware of and we will probably tidy these up in future versions, particularly if we get strong feedback from users.

  1. Where you enter in the cost of each job in a particular year, you are entering it into a field which doesn’t actually represent the year in calendar terms.  Rather it is the year relative to the start date of your plan.  For example, if you have a job in year two of your plan, it will always be in year two, even after you have changed the start date.

  2. Also job numbering is manual. So if you want your jobs to be listed in a particular order, you will need to edit the job numbers manually.

Note that both of these quirks equally affect the jobs cost table and the method of numbering is the same in the items and variations management sections.

Entering data

When you enter data, just use whole numbers and don’t use a $ sign, commas or cents.

We use today's currency values

All currency values in Plan Heaven are at today's values and we don't make any provision for inflation.  We think this just make sense but if you want to know more we have written more about currency and inflation here.

The jobs cost table

This probably doesn’t need any explanation. It’s just a list of the jobs so we can get annual totals to transfer to the funding table. The job’s cost table can’t be edited. You have to go back and edit the job.
